Seattle Wine Tours just got back from a short vacation in the Hood River OR, White Salmon WA area. What an incredible area for recreation and wine touring. Is there anything better than outdoor recreation and then wine touring? I think not!
Hood River OR and White Salmon WA are linked by a mile long bridge. It is easy to stay in one community and visit the other only minutes away. White Salmon & Hood River share the banks of the “Mighty Columbia River”, and the recreation opportunities are endless. Hiking, camping, biking, golfing, rock climbing, river rafting, kayaking, kiteboarding, wind surfing, skiing, snowboarding, stand-up paddle boarding, fly fishing, Columbia River fishing, photography, and scenic drives in every direction!
We stayed at a beautiful 3 bedroom town house, located 5 blocks from downtown Hood River. Hood River Vacation Rentals – www.hrvacations.com did a great job of finding us the perfect location and accommodations for our group of 6. Libby & Leslie were outstanding to work with, and I would highly recommend Hood River Vacation Rentals (HRVR) as the starting spot to find a great place to stay as well as information on all the things to do & see in the White Salmon, Hood River area. We visited 4 wineries; 2 on the Washington side, and two on the Oregon side. The Oregon wineries were Phelps Creek and Spring House Cellars, and the Washington Wineries were Syncline and Memaloose. All of the wineries were outstanding, and all have unique characteristics that that embody the terroir of the Columbia River Gorge.
If you are a beer drinker (pick me) Hood River & White Salmon might have the best brew pubs in all of the United States. Let’s not forget that Full Sail Brewery started here and is located smack dab in the middle of Hood River; but there are so many more on both sides of the Columbia River that a separate blog would be needed to expound about how good the beer is in the Gorge.
When it comes to wine, recreation, beer and scenic beauty, Hood River & White Salmon might be the best of Oregon & Washington!
